We've been hoping for pictures of Rob in his black name tag from the MTC, and finally received some last night. He looks happy, and says his district is the BEST. He is leaving soon to travel to the West Indies, and we are hoping for a call from the airport. He has had an amazing MTC experience! Here are his pictures:

Speaking Bajan

A few insights on the English dialect spoken in Barbados:

1. They do not use "him" and "her" in Barbados. It is "he" and "she." Thus the phrase "hold her hand" would actually be "hold she hand."

2. They do not use past tense. So a phrase like "I saw him yesterday" would be "I see he yesterday."

3. You won't hear "th" much, so words like "this" and "that" are "dis" and "dat." Rob sent a picture of a branch member "tiefing" the missionaries' cereal.

Some common phrases:

"All-a-wanna": All of you

"Cheese on Bread": This is a substitute for swearing - kind of like "dang" or "heck."

"Fuh true": Are you serious?

"Go round": Move over

"Limin": Relaxing

"Jook": To poke or stab

"Sweet drinks": Any kind of soda

"Kadooment": A big occasion. A big to-do or commotion.

Here is an example of how different English sounds in Barbados:

"She goin over she fren house to buss a little lime and ting." This translates to: "She is going over to her friend's house to relax and do whatever comes along."
